Stainless Steel FAQ’s

Quality Alloy

The Stainless Steel that is used for LAKEN Stainless Steel bottles is AISI304 (18/8). It the highest quality of SS used in food grade products and lifts Laken’s quality above that of general Chinese made bottles. Furthermore, the polishing process is extremely significant and another differentiating feature. Laken SS bottles are polished is a Dolomitic Polish done with Limestone. No harmful chemicals are used and the Limestone absolves the dirty byproducts from the manufacturing process while it polishes. (Cheaper SS bottles have the potential of being made of an AISI 204 (18/0) alloy, which should not be used for products in contact with food.)

Quality Control

Beyond the limestone used in the polishing process, the SS bottle manufacture performs two leakage tests before packing the finished bottles. This is important to know because at Laken SS bottle is physically lighter and has a thinner wall. Other higher quality SS bottles have a 0.5mm wall thickness, however, Laken has a 0.4mm wall thickness. In order to secure a finished product that conforms to your desired expected quality you can over build it (ie 0.5mm wall) or test it more thoroughly. Our Chinese partner is dedicated to perform a pressurized leakage test each bottle to 3 atmospheres of pressure, twice.

Audits and SRP

Both Laken and an independent agent has audited the factory. Laken has been working with this factory for several years and visited the factory once a year for the period of time. Furthermore, the independent agent is dedicated to visiting the factory for social and quality inspections at least twice a year; and will be tracing production at least twice a year in order to guarantee the quality that we require.

In Summation

Laken has established a relationship with a SS bottle factory in China, and after developing that relationship over a series of years, they feel comfortable that this factory will produce a high quality and healthy bottle. The alloy used to make the bottles meet the standards of the bottles of the highest quality in this category. The finishing process is a clean safe process that not only polishes the bottles inside and out, but does it in a non-toxic manner. The quality control process allows the factory to produce a lighter bottle that is twice tested to further guarantee a high quality product. All in all, it is a partnership, not just a sourcing business relationship, and both Laken and the Chinese factory are dedicated to delivering a high quality product manufactured in a socially responsible manner; and, further audited on a regular basis to back up that guarantee.
